After a reasonably mild winter we are now enjoying
the start of Spring and obvious signs of some
excellent fishing conditions. Over the winter
the Lodge continued with a general maintenance
program both inside and out.
The biggest news that I can convey is that Lake
Rotoroa Lodge has been purchased by a local family
trust and they are extremely keen to rebuild the
Lodge to its former glory as the finest around.
Already we have had new carpet laid throughout
which was long overdue and has given the interior
a new feeling of grandeur. Cabinets will shortly
be installed that will contain a private fridge
and all other necessities in each room including
a minibar.
We have added a four double bedroom 'OWNERS HOUSE'
to our operation and a roadway through the bush
to and from the Lodge has been completed.
The adjacent farmland is also owned by the family
and opens up access to a number of new non fishing
activities.
The helicopter will again be available to Lodge
guests and this has now been relocated to an onsite
pad which will mean less travel time to and from
the machine. Now only a short stroll to and from
the Lodge.
We are looking at possible lunch and dinner cruises
on the lake which will provide guests with a unique
view of the lake and surrounding alpine peaks.
October has consistently produced some excellent
fishing over the past years and is the reason
many anglers are now coming here at this time
of year.
Our guiding team have all been out scouting our
many rivers in preparation of the coming season.
Reports are that this may well be the year of
the mouse with increased rodent activity plainly
obvious around the beech forests.
As usual we appreciate the need to take care
of non-fishing partners coming to the Lodge. This
season we can provide guests with closer to home
activities such as bush walks, a farm tour to
see a real kiwi working farm and lake trips. We
will also have available a horse- trekking route
across the farm. These are in addition to the
many other activities available throughout the
region.
Another reminder that felt soled boots are banned
in New Zealand in an effort to reduce the spread
of Didymo.
Our Head Chef Dean Sincock, ably supported by
Chef Jo Meek are both returning for another season.
Dean has been in France honing his culinary skills
and discovering more great recipes. Those of you
who have experienced our table previously will
be looking forward to enjoying the gourmet cuisine
prepared especially for your visit.
Management, staff and our experienced guiding
team will again be working hard this season to
ensure your stay with us is a truly memorable
one. On behalf of all the staff of Lake Rotoroa
Lodge we look forward to welcoming you and providing
you with a truly unique experience in a most magnificent
location.
