The 2005/2006 season begins
The season has started once more and in grand style with guests arriving from Australia, USA and the UK plus a few Kiwis as well. Both the weather and fishing have been co-operative and early season fishing has produced some tremendous days. Both experienced and novice anglers have been bringing nice browns to the net but what a day one of our regulars has just had. John Part landed 21 browns (all nice fish up to 8 pounds) in a backcountry river accessible by helicopter. These are the days that fishing tales evolve from and I am sure that this day does not need any embellishment to cement it in the pages of Lake Rotoroa Lodge folk lore.
Fish up to 9.5 pound have been landed so far this season with several in the 6 to 8 pound bracket and all showing good condition after a very mild winter.
Rainfall has been obliging enough to freshen the rivers without inhibiting the fishing days. A high pressure over the country for the next few days should ensure some wonderful days casting to the wily browns with both dry fly and nymph.
The guides have been studying the river systems over the past few weeks so they can maximize every opportunity on the water. Dean and Jo have returned to the Kitchen and will be assisted by Samantha Bell, a promising young chef just returned to her home town after a year cooking in a Hawkes Bay vineyard restaurant. Chris and Amanda have everything looking spic and span around the lodge and are as lively as ever.
The season is shaping up to be a good one and we look forward to seeing old friends and new throughout the summer.
